      Reconstructing Apple Earnings, Including iPhone
Most companies grow in earnings and price with growth in the economy and the population served. An earnings per share model is a reasonable estimate of comparative value for such companies. However there are companies such as Apple that don't fit in this category. Look for these outliers and you will do well in the market.
Years ago my dad told me if you are in a poker game and you notice someone cheating, politely cash in your chips and leave the game. Good advice in the current market until the rules are changed.

      Apple Earnings Wrapup
Great article Seth. The last recession, Apple was planning for the future not lamenting the past. The results of looking forward are clearly evident in the success of the most recent Apple products. One can only wonder what new and amazing products will come next.

Despite What You've Heard, Apple Has Momentum - JP Morgan Analyst
During the last recession Apple prepared for tomorrow. They had their inventory under control in 3 months and a new product line ready as the market recovered. Their competition has been one upgrade behind ever since. I wonder what they are quietly working on now. Stay tuned.

Apple Math: Market Share over Margins
Great article Jason. Please do not make the average investor too smart. Trading Apple has been a money machine. Consider Apple's internal information security. No hint of the switch to Intel chips despite a two plus year transition period. The introduction of the iPhone ready for the market without any hint of its development. However a close watch of their past practices and current actions can give hints to where they are going. We should see an announcement sometime in August.
      Disclosure: Apple investor since 1993

Apple F3Q08 (Qtr End 6/28/08) Earnings Call Transcript
      Good comment appleleaps
The comment by analysts that Apple's next quarter projections disappoint seems to be a bit arrogant. All Apple products had record results, the stores posted their best year and many new countries are now selling the iphone. The concern over profit margin reduction may be misplaced. The higher cost computers would be expected to have a higher margin than the iphone and ipod. The projected sales of the iphone indicates that Apple should easily make up the difference in volume. This is my sixteenth year as an Apple shareholder. I have watched, studied and greatly admired Steve Jobs over the years. His loss would surely bring a tear to my eye.

Apple Plays the Conservative Card Despite Record Quarter
two observations: 1. my projection of the next quarter would involve a risk assessment using my best estimates for each product modified by an evaluation of the probability of the occurrence of negative events.
      2. As long as Apple's progress estimate for the next quarter is lower than average projection by the analysts the tort lawyers can look for company's to sue following a sudden market downturn.
By the way: a very good article Chris.
